| Rafters |
Provide platform for roofing materials, main components of roof. |
| Ladder Framing |
Extra framing between rafters. |
| Joist |
Boards that provide primary support for the whole roof. They run horizontally and attach to the tops of the walls on both ends. |
| Split Joist Overlap |
Overlap of wood in cases where two pieces of wood must be joined to form one joist. |
| Gable Framing |
Boards that run vertically in the gables, in order to provide support to the rafters. |
| Sub Fascia |
Boards and components underneath the exposed fascia. |
| King Post |
Wood post that runs from a joist to a rafter. Provides extra support for roof loads. |

| Drip-Edge |
Length of overhang of roofing materials from the end of a roof. This prevents rain and other elements from destroying the edges of the roof. |
| Upper Offset |
Offset of siding from the top of the wall. |
| Lower Offset |
Offset of siding from the ground. |
| Sheet Overlap |
Amount of overlap of siding to prevent leaks between sheets of material. |
| Gable/Truss Offset |
Offset from the top of the roof to the top of the gable end truss. |

| Foundation |
Concrete base imbedded in the ground. Provides primary support for the garage. |
| Stud |
Boards that run vertically from the foundation up. They are the primary structure of the walls. |
| Double Cripple |
Boards that are back-to-back. They provide extra support in places under heavy load where bowing might otherwise occur. |
| Small Header |
The head of a small entryway. This provides overhead support for doorways made for the passage of a person. |
| Large Header |
The head of a large entryway. This provides overhead support for doorways made for the passage of vehicles and other objects that would not fit through a smaller door. |
